February brings Snow!

Welcome to Albuquerque, where it rarely snows..

On Monday afternoon, snow began falling across Albuquerque and much of New Mexico. This storm came with a much larger snow storm that has hit much of the United States. I was hoping for a two hour delay on Tuesday but got much more than I bargained for...
Yes...Today, Thursday, February 3rd is our THIRD snow day in a row. Tuesday, schools were on delays then quickly closed before reporting times began. All of APS and all of the colleges closed down. The roads were relatively bad on Tuesday but Mom and I stayed home, not even venturing to the mail box. Tuesday night the snow had stopped but at our home there was about 3.5 inches. Temperatures outside were at record lows for twenty years. Wednesday began again with a two hour delay that became school closings. Mom and I weren't sure why because our street was dry but decided it was fine. We spent the day reading books in our sunny front living room. We just enjoyed some relaxation and down time.

Well...In New Mexico, it's rare to have more than a single snow day, but today makes number THREE! Now the state is having natural gas shortages, many freezing pipes and suggesting people stay inside because of below zero temperatures with the wind chill factored in. Another day at home, except a quick grocery store trip. It's amazing how unprepared New Mexico is for such weather but at the same time, I think they have handled it well by telling people to stay inside if possible and to be aware of the dangers of being out in the cold for extended periods of time.

Tomorrow may be another day off...we shall see.
